Wash and Care

General Tips and Information

Here are a few general tips to preserve the longevity of your Garnier-Thiebaut linens:

- Always refer to the care instructions symbols on the product label.

- In case of stains, the key is to act quickly. The longer you wait, the harder it will get to make the stain disappear.

- Do not overload the washer/dryer machine and unfold linens before placing them in the washer/dryer.

- Do not wash dark colors with light colors. Laundry detergents containing bleach might alter the color of your linens.

- Natural fibers such as cotton and linen will always shrink to some extent. Be sure to allow for shrinkage.

- Avoid mixing natural fibers and synthetic fibers in the same laundry load.

- Never iron a stain.

-To avoid creases, pull linens off the tumble dryer before they dry completely and fold them (or iron if necessary). Filling your dryer only half way also helps prevent wrinkles. Never over-dry your linens.

- Keep your linens in a dark, cool and dry area.

Table and Kitchen Linens

100% Cotton Table & Kitchen linens (not Green Sweet or Coated)

- Wash separately before the first use (95ºF – warm temperature).

- Machine wash (between 95ºF and 140ºF – warm temperature) with a color safe detergent.

- Tumble dry on medium setting.

- Iron on high setting on the back side.

Green Sweet linens

- No need to wash before first use.

- In case of stain or spill, first remove any solid residue, then gently dab the spill or stain with a damp sponge.

- If the stain is not completely gone, machine-wash within 24 hours on warm temperature with a color safe detergent. No fabric softener.

- Tumble dry medium. Do not use dryer sheets.

- Iron on high setting. The heat will help regenerate the stain resistant property of the fabric.

Coated Cotton linens

Everyday use

- Simply wipe off with damp sponge and some warm water (no rubbing, no scratching).

- Do not use dish soap or any cleaning product.

Occasionally

- Machine-wash on warm temperature on delicate cycle with a little detergent. No fabric softener.

- Hang dry only.

- Iron on high setting (back side only). Be sure not to iron the hems.

- If used outdoor, do not leave outside after use.

Pre-washed linen or Metis Table linen

- Wash separately before the first use (95ºF – warm temperature).

- Machine wash (between 95ºF and 140ºF – warm temperature) with a color safe detergent.

- No need to iron. If you wish to reduce the “wrinkled” look, iron on high setting.

- Hang dry only.

Bath Linen

- Wash separately before the first use (95ºF – warm temperature).

- Machine wash (between 95ºF and 140ºF – warm temperature) with a mild detergent without added bleach, whiteners or softeners.

- To preserve the absorbency of the cotton, do not use fabric softener.

- Tumble dry on medium setting. The dryer will bring volume and softness to your towels.

Bed Linen

- Untangle the sheets before placing them in the machine

- Wash separately before the first use (95ºF – warm temperature) with a little detergent and a small amount of white vinegar (for colored bedding only). Wash on the reverse side. The white vinegar will help preserve the brightness of the colors over time.

- Wash white and colored linens separately. All the members of the bedding set should be washed together to maintain color consistency.

- Machine wash, following the care label instructions.

- Tumble dry on medium setting. Remove quickly from tumble dryer to limit wrinkles.

- Line drying your white bedding outdoor in the sun will preserve the brightness of the white.

- If you find it necessary, iron your bed linen while still a little damp. Note that 100% cotton sheets will wrinkle to some extent, especially when new. Your body will place tension on the sheets as you sleep and they'll be a little less wrinkly the next day.

Tips to Remove Specific Stains

- Red fruits or red wine stains: Dab immediately with a white cloth or a paper towel and then pour some white wine on the stain, or a clear spirit such as gin or vodka. Wait few minutes and rub with white vinegar. After your meal, let the cloth soak in cold water and follow with usual washing instructions.

-Coffee, tea, chocolate stains: Quickly soak the stain with hydrogen peroxide or a combo of water and white vinegar. Tea stains are stubborn, so it’s important to clean them immediately before they dry. For coffee, use a mixture of egg yolk and warm water.

- Wax stains: Scrape off as much wax as possible. Place the stained area between too pieces of white blotting paper and press with a warm iron. Repeat as needed until wax is completely gone. Proceed with usual washing instructions.

- Grease stains: Apply few drops of liquid detergent on the stain and let it sit for few hours. Proceed with usual washing instructions.

- Ink: Dab the stain with a white cotton cloth soaked with rubbing alcohol. Proceed with usual washing instructions.
